NTU Pride - Committee Interviews and Outtakes

For the NTU Pride website, I went out and filmed the committee members to get their feedback on the year so far.

I've spent a few hours editing the videos alone and with my fellow committee member, Mikey and we've finally finished and released the videos.

They will be going on the promotional DVDs ready for fresher's fayre in October.

I've been working for just a couple of hours on the promotional material I'm creating for the NTU Pride Freshers Fayre Promotional DVDs (try saying that again!) and so far I've managed to remake the Sex and the City 2 trailor!

Greatest Day of Our Lives

Here's a video I made to remember my friends and my trip to Liverpool. It was a reunion and great to be back together. We've been friends for what seems like forever, and what better way to remember each other than through a great video like this. Hope you like!

Identity Problems!

Recently, I've found it fairly difficult to understand who I am in terms of identity. I read a bit on Wikipedia about self-assessment and that if you say "I am lazy", this is self-assessment. Basicly, you're saying that you're lazy, where as if you said "I am tired" it's more of a self-concept.

I think one of the hardest things is discovering who you are in terms of yourself. What do you like to do, what is it that makes you you, why do you do certain things, what makes you do those things and what's your reason for doing it that way. These things I get very confused about, I simply can't get my head around them to a certain extent.

Therefore, I feel as if this, in a way, is a self-assessment and the result is that I get confused about more metaphorical or non-literal issues. So I want to reflect this through my work.

My first idea for an audio/visual aspect is to make a music video of my self to the song "Lies" by McFly. I was thinking of reflecting it to the world of advertising (an area im very interested and baffled by) to make it more dynamic, along side shots of me 'flipping out' with the confusion and lies that's created by advertising to a certain extent.

(I've never been good at putting my thoughts into words! ha)

One Shot Short - Think Campaign

I've finally finished my One Shot Short video!

I hope you enjoy watching the film, there's only so much you can do with a single take of film.

Various problems I had to over come are that it's quite difficult to film something with the mindset that 6 other people have to edit it as well, so you have to make it quite universal. Also, its fairly difficult to do exactly what you want with a single piece of footage. For example, I feel that the guys standing at the car and talking is just too long for my video and I would prefer that to be shorter, but I still think the video works well and utilises the footage.

I desaturated the colour so that only blues and greens were visible, and I placed 2 filters over the video, one to make it liney and another with darkened edges. I feel these effects give it a very industrial feel to it, making the camera as if it were a CCTV camera. The effect of this makes the video seem more realistic and like this could happen to any normal person. The way the camera is attached to a tripod and only swivels around in a stationary position makes it seem even more natural as a CCTV camera is quite ridged in its movement.

It kind of reminds me of a 1960's public broadcast I saw on YouTube once. The voice over is quite similar and it tackles an issue that's not particularly relevant. Here it is:

If I Were A Boy

Beyonce's new single, If I Were A Boy, is a wonderful song and the video caught my eye.

It was really refreshing to see a superstar such as Beyonce who's seen for her beauty and flawless complexion to have such a raw video.

Obviously the music video has been edited but I just found it interesting to show Beyonce with hardly any make-up on, hair in a simple style, nothing dominating about her, not even any jewellary. This may have been done to emphasise the slightly complicated story line through out the song, but it deffinatly shows Beyonce's pure beauty and the fact that women and girls don't need to wear lashings of make-up to be successful or pretty.

One Shot Short Idea

An idea I had for the one shot short project we've been given has come to me!

My ideas are as follows:

1. The film could be from a partialy blind and deaf person, using a hazey effect on the footage and then the mubles of people talking to them. It could be filmed as if this person is lying on the floor be beaten up, or sitting in a wheel chair being patronised.

2. My second random thought could be as if the film is from a dog's point of view, sitting in its basket. The dog could be looking at us as actors doing something, and all the voices are mumbled to show the dog doesn't understand, and all you can hear is the heavey breathing, or even have a human voice for what the dog's really thinking.
