This horrendous quality photo is what is left of the whiteboard we made for our internet map.

If you click the picture, you can almost make everything out. The ones at the top are what we found the most popular as of October 2009 and the ones at the bottom are the least popular. The ones at the very very bottom are sites that used to be very popular but are now no longer used as much.

Technology Advances

Recent events have made me realise just how far technology has come in such a short space of time.

Logitech has announced their 1 billionth computer mouse has been made recently and that it's also the 40th anniversary of the computer mouse. I found a video on the BBC website about the very first computer mouse. The design of it is clever, yet simple and performs a task that we now take for granted.

The design of the mouse hasn't changed much at all, from two sliding wheels, to a ball inside the mouse and then to optical mice. The only major change really has been the ability to have a mouse without wires.

Various other products such as touch pads on laptops and touch screens have tried to rival the mouse, but each have their downsides. The touch pads are fairly inaccurate and not much use when trying to draw on computer screens. The touch screen methods are great for diversity, but you can imagine holding your arm out for hours is going to become painful.

Another advance in technology I noticed recently was the addition of WiFi Internet on the bus I take home. You can now actually surf the full Internet at a modest speed whilst sitting on the bus. A couple of years ago, this seemed like miles away, yet we've seen a rapid increase in WiFi hot spots thanks to the use of the Cloud Network. We can even access the Internet while sipping on a coffee in Starbucks or indulging in a burger at McDonalds!

I've finally made my face known on almost all media formats!

Newspaper: Photograph taken of me in role for the Sound Of Music in 2005.

TV: My video, "Follow Me Home" was featured on BedroomTV and I also got my face on the Children In Need show.

Radio: Owned my own radio station for a year and also requested song live on air.

Internet: Had my own website, featured on various websites under the "Monkey Fudge" brand.

Magazine: Finally! I've made it into a magazine. This month's issue (December 08) of GayTimes features my picture and a story about me chatting up the taxi driver on the way to a club in Wales. Click on the image to see larger and read the story.

Bebo: A Small Idea

Just a quick thought, after reading a report about how Bebo was created and sold to AOL for over £523m, it's amazing to see how far a little idea can go and expand.

The creator, Xochi Birch, spent hours in her bedroom playing around with various ideas for companys including LemonLink and BirthdayAlarm. But after persistance and selling some quite profitable companys, she stumbled across social networking sites. After creating Bebo, she found that people had joined, but were not returning. Once convincing them to return and upload pictures, this turned around and Bebo is now the most successful social site in Ireland, second in the UK and third in the US.

I guess what I'm getting at, is that if you have an idea and it doesn't work out, keep trying untill you hit your goal. Determination and talent is the key to success.
