Apple iPhone Advert
After reading about Apple's advert for the iPhone was banned it got me thinking. One Shot Short - Think Campaign
I've finally finished my One Shot Short video!
I hope you enjoy watching the film, there's only so much you can do with a single take of film.
Various problems I had to over come are that it's quite difficult to film something with the mindset that 6 other people have to edit it as well, so you have to make it quite universal. Also, its fairly difficult to do exactly what you want with a single piece of footage. For example, I feel that the guys standing at the car and talking is just too long for my video and I would prefer that to be shorter, but I still think the video works well and utilises the footage.
I desaturated the colour so that only blues and greens were visible, and I placed 2 filters over the video, one to make it liney and another with darkened edges. I feel these effects give it a very industrial feel to it, making the camera as if it were a CCTV camera. The effect of this makes the video seem more realistic and like this could happen to any normal person. The way the camera is attached to a tripod and only swivels around in a stationary position makes it seem even more natural as a CCTV camera is quite ridged in its movement.
It kind of reminds me of a 1960's public broadcast I saw on YouTube once. The voice over is quite similar and it tackles an issue that's not particularly relevant. Here it is:

One Shot Short - Post Production
The video above shows the clip we filmed for our One Shot Short. The video is the raw footage and I have been playing around with it, editing it in PowerDirector to create a different feel to it. I'll upload it once i've finished.
We wanted to film a CCTV style video, showing 2 men trying to ask for directions and then stealing the bag from inside the car, they run off as the car skids away. We thought this idea was going to be quite good and gave us many options to edit with.
Narrative Seminar
This is the kind of project I love and hopefully the area of interest ill be working in for a career. We were given about 9 different videos and we had to put it all together to create a scene. I've cut bits and moved things around to create this scene. The subtitles were placed onto it as our group were told to use them to show what the characters are actually thinking. The positioning of the text, either aligned left or right corresponds with the character to make it easier to understand. The quality isn't that good, but you can imagine it being better quality with more time to work on it.

If I Were A Boy
Beyonce's new single, If I Were A Boy, is a wonderful song and the video caught my eye.It was really refreshing to see a superstar such as Beyonce who's seen for her beauty and flawless complexion to have such a raw video.
Obviously the music video has been edited but I just found it interesting to show Beyonce with hardly any make-up on, hair in a simple style, nothing dominating about her, not even any jewellary. This may have been done to emphasise the slightly complicated story line through out the song, but it deffinatly shows Beyonce's pure beauty and the fact that women and girls don't need to wear lashings of make-up to be successful or pretty.

Figuring Light - Colour and the Intangible

After arriving at the gallery, I was surprised to find a variety of fairly modern paintings. I was pleased as modern art speaks to me a lot more than traditional paintings of landscapes and portraits. The one main picture that struck me was one called The Dreaming. It looks like a collection of oval shapes, all linked to one another in a spiral pattern. The spiral is achieved by the ovals getting larger as they leave the centre as well as the colours going from primary into more like tone shades. The dark background contrasts to the colours well and makes the picture seem more magical. My first interpretation of the picture was that it looked a lot like a dance floor with the spot lights shining. After reading Rebecca Partridge’s comments on the painting, I was interested to see that she saw these strange shapes and colours in her dreams as a child. After experiencing a similar experience, only with large spray of coloured dots merging together, I felt a connection. The overlapping of the ovals seem to me as if they’re all the possible dreams and meanings that come to us as we’re asleep, unaware of the outside world, in our own little vortex.
Replacing Colours

These photos were taken and edited on photoshop. I used the complimentary colours, blue and orange to show how food can look different and our physcological feeling towards them. The bread on the first photo has a golden brown one on the bottom, this is to show how tempting it is to eat, however the other is coloured blue. The blue one shows a way that we can almost "taste" our food by looking at it. There's nothing wrong with the bread, it's just because it's coloured blue, we don't find it appetising. The second photo shows a blue piece of food that, of course, looks unappetising, however the beer next to the food has gone mouldy as you can see the mould growing inside the glass. Neither of these foods look appetising, due to their half eaten state, their colour and the mould growing inside the glass of bear.

One Shot Short Ideas

I was thinking about using Family Guy sound bytes over the top of mine to create a comic video. I'll have to experiment once we've filmed our production.

One Shot Short Idea

My ideas are as follows:
1. The film could be from a partialy blind and deaf person, using a hazey effect on the footage and then the mubles of people talking to them. It could be filmed as if this person is lying on the floor be beaten up, or sitting in a wheel chair being patronised.
2. My second random thought could be as if the film is from a dog's point of view, sitting in its basket. The dog could be looking at us as actors doing something, and all the voices are mumbled to show the dog doesn't understand, and all you can hear is the heavey breathing, or even have a human voice for what the dog's really thinking.

Rule of Thirds
The rule of thirds is the positioning of objects in your photograph. If the subject of the picture of within certain lines it can give the image more effect.
For example, the video I've included shows a bottle. The bottle is positioned just inside the right hand vertical line so that it's focus is more central, then I've kept the label split into four via the top right hot spot. The angle of the photo creates a dominating effect, as if this bottle holds more power, almost an icon of structure and definition.
The photo of Geri Halliwell keeps her on the right hand side but her right eye is positioned on the top right hot spot to keep the focus and places her mouth central to the photograph.
The next photo of the tree and houses focuses right on the centre of the image. I used the houses below the bottom horizontal line as a base line as the horizon isn't clearly visible in this photo due to the weather, then i positioned the house to the right of the right line and the tree to the left of the left line. By doing this, it makes the centre of the photo the more focal area, encouraging the viewer to look into the distance, which also emphasises the weather.
The photograph of the Rachel Stevens poster was taken as a representation of a professional photograph. As you can see, the photographer has kept her entire head in the top centre box, her right breast is places on the top left hot spot and her elbow is on the bottom right hot spot. By doing this, the photographer has created a more powerful image, focusing our attention on her slim figure (by placing her slim waist line on the bottom horizontal line) and her facial features.
The final photograph uses the horizon line on the top horizontal line and the focus of the picture os the tree as I've placed it on the right vertical line.
When filming video, the rule of thirds is used to align someone up with a vertical line and then as they move, there's space in front of them so that it doesn't make the person seem surrounded by too much background.
